abstract

conclusions these data suggest that single bilateral microinjection of aβ (25-35) could impair memory and can be used as an ad model in wistar rats. results the results showed that aβ (25-35) significantly impaired both step-through latency and time in dark compartment in the passive avoidance task. background alzheimer's disease (ad) is the most common form of dementia that leads to neurotoxicity. amyloid β-peptide (aβ) has a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of ad. objective given the contradictory results of aβ (25-35) on the memory, in the present study we have examined the effect of aβ - induced memory impairment. materials and methods wistar male rats received an intrahippocampal (ihp) injection of aβ (25-35).the learning function in the rats was examined by the passive avoidance task.

Effect of Amyloid β-Peptide on Passive Avoidance Learning in Rats: A Behavioral Study

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia that leads to neurotoxicity. Amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) has a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of AD. Objectives: Given the contradictory results of Aβ (25-35) on the memory, in the present study we have examined the effect of Aβ induced memory impairment. Materials and Methods: Wistar male rats received an intrahippocampal (I...

Effect of Morphine on Passive Avoidance Memory in Cholestatic Rats

Background and purpose: Morphine as an opioid compound has different and sometimes conflicting effects on memory and learning process. Bile duct ligation causes cholestasis, which disrupts liver function. It is known that opioid systems are involved in cholestasis. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible effect of morphine on the memory of cholestatic rats. Materials and methods:...

The Effect of Ginkgo on Baclofen Induced Amnesia using Passive Avoidance Learning and Memory in Rats

Background & Objective: Ginkgo biloba is an herbal medicine that has a positive effect on improving memory. It prevents oxidative damage in mitochondria and cell death in a variety of Neuropathies. Besides, baclofen is prescribed for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects but has negative impact on memory. The objective of this study is to investigate the interaction of ginkgo with GABA b ...

Effect of butylated hydroxytoluene on passive avoidance learning in male rats

Introduction: Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol) is one of the extensively used antioxidants in the food industry. It is used in low-fat foods, fish products, packaging materials, paraffin, and mineral oils. BHT is also widely used in combination with other antioxidants such as BHA, propyl gallate, and citric acid for the stabilization of oils and high-fat foods. On t...

Short Communication: Protective Effects of Cyperus Rotundus Extract on Amyloid β-Peptide (1-40)-Induced Memory Impairment in Male Rats: A Behavioral Study

Introduction: The Alzheimer Disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia that leads to memory impairment. As the oxidative stress plays an important role in AD pathogenesis, the current study aimed at examining the protective effects of Cyperus Rotundus as an antioxidant on amyloid β (Aβ) -induced memory impairment.   Methods: Twenty-eight Wistar male rats received intrahipp...

The effect of chronic oral administration of verapamil on learning and retrieval in rats using passive avoidance learning task

Verapamil is a drug that blocks L-type calcium channels and selectively inhibits calcium ion entry into the central and peripheral nervous system cells. Verapamil is used acutely and chronically in treatment of some cardiovascular and central nervous system disorders. It has also been shown that acute administration of verapamil has no significant effect on learning and memory in rats, but the ...
